Mustard Seed Series® Confirmation

The Mustard Seed Series® offers an education in the basics of the faith suitable for any mainline denomination. Students focus on the key themes of Christianity using, classical art, music and literature and serious, in-depth study of the Scriptures, theology, and church life and history.The purpose of the  Series is to help you guide your students and confirmands to make a decision to Christian discipleship based on our faith story, interpretation of it, and its applicability to their lives.

The Mustard Seed Series Pre-Confirmation 1 and 2 (available separately) and Confirmation Series challenge young people and adults to enter into our faith story and become a continuing part of it. These three levels of study put more and more of the responsibility for learning on the confirmand. This study program will go a long way in helping confirmands develop an understanding of what it means to be a Christian. Only in-depth “head” and “heart” knowledge will make for enduring and faithful Christians. Anything less misses the mark.

Pre-Confirmation 1 and 2 provide the needed foundation for the Confirmation course and ideally will be a prerequisite to it.This material is content-driven rather than age specific in design. Adults as well as adolescents can use this material. The participant's response to it will be governed by their age, experience, search for spiritual truths and values, curiosity, and critical thinking ability. These three resources provide a good review of  Christian faith and can be used by non-confirmation, adult and Bible study classes as well. 

The lessons are fairly demanding. They need to be balanced by some light-hearted fellowship events, field trips, or entertainment. The first and last six or eight lessons would best be taught on a retreat weekend. Fun, should also be an important part of these retreats and a means ministers, and mentors and/or youth leaders. 

This resource contains 33 (90 minutes) reproducible lessons (Teacher's Manual and student handouts) that can be spread over one or two years.  If you plan to do this in one year, several lessons will be covered in the beginning and ending retreats. If you prefer a slower pace, you can schedule each lesson to cover two 45-50 minute sessions.

Also included: a Director's Manual and a Teacher Training Manual with lots of background information, teaching techniques, classroom management techniques, etc.

This Mustard Seed Confirmation Program is included in the new Center for Youth Ministry membership that also gives you access to three other youth ministry programs four confirmation programs and a host of other resources. Judicatory memberships for dioceses, synods, etc. also are available -- they allow a judictory to pay a flat fee for access to all materials for all of their congregations.
