Advent - Stations of the Crèche

Similar to the way that Stations of the Cross helps tell the story leading to Easter, our Stations of the Crèche (a French word meaning "crib" or "cradle") will help children understand the nativity story. Walk the story from Old Testament prophets to the birth of a king, and discover how this story affects our lives today.

Each lesson plan station tells a different part of the Christmas story, but students will not need to experience all the stations (nor do they need to experience the stations in any particular order) to understand the value of digging more deeply into this powerful story.

From a theological perspective, this unit is not so much about the well-known details of a special baby being born in a manger in Bethlehem. But rather, the focus is on the Incarnation – how Almighty God chose to come to earth and be among us, not as a mighty king or a fearful warrior, but as a tiny, helpless baby who had to be loved, protected and nurtured by human beings.

Each WorkshopCycle unit includes 7 workshops:

  • Art
  • Story & Games
  • Drama or Activity
  • Music
  • Kitchen (food-related, but doesn't always need an actual kitchen)
  • Movie
  • Publishing (Computer & non-Computer options)
