Felt Storytelling - A Starter Set

Invite children to enter imaginatively into the Biblical narrative by playing with the story on their own terms. When children appropriate the Scriptural world in this way, its language becomes a part of their lives forever. This Starter Set includes the stories of Creation, Flood, Christmas, Jesus' Life and the Apostles Creed. All felt materials, scripts and instructions are included. You can also use this to supplement any Bible-based curriculum.

This resource is rich with the symbolism of our faith. The persons of the Trinity are represented by two hands and a red heart, the figure of Jesus and the white dove. There is a rainbow, a tomb and a burst of light; sun and stars, hills and water lay the groundwork for building rich and suggestive landscapes. Over 200 story pieces are included in 25 carefully selected colors. Each story unfolds with classically beautiful visual effects. One 4 year old boy said it was "just like a movie."

If you are new to storytelling, you will feel confident starting with this set. The manual includes complete instructions for assembling the story pieces (all you'll need is white glue and a pair of sharp small scissors) as well as detailed story scripts which tell you where and when to place figures and remove them.

About the Author and Artist

Gretchen Wolff Pritchard is a religious educator in the Episcopal Church. She is well known as the creator of THE SUNDAY PAPER, an illustrated version of the weekly Scripture readings for the church's year, and as a writer and illustrator of books for children and teachers in the church, including Alleluea! Amen, New Life, Offering the Gospel to Children, and a collection of Christmas pageants, Go, Tell it on the Mountain. Gretchen's ideas for celebrating the Scripture story have become treasured parts of the yearly cycle in many churches around the country.
