Beyond Beliefs

HOW UNDERLYING BELIEFS SHAPE PUBLIC POLICY AND CULTURE

Have you ever wondered where public personalities, politicians, and institutions get their positions on issues? Do you want to explore the values you apply to difficult social issues -- perhaps unconsciously? Learn to analyze the core values underlying all sides of an issue and then examine the various positions as they relate to the values and beliefs of the Church.

Do The Right Thing

An ethics course that uses challenging case studies to engage participants about what they would do in a given situation and what ethical principles they would use to make their decisions. The 21 scenarios were originally created by older adults for older adults. However, they work well for mid-life and younger adults who also face end-of-life decisions, decisions about sex and sexuality, the costs of long-term care, the relationships between family members and more!

Episcopal/Anglican Story Collection

THE STORY OF ANGLICANISM and

THE STORY OF THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH

Growing Toward God: A Choice Between Impossibles

Sister Joan Chittister looks at the state of the world and as an antidote to materialism and individualism evokes the Benedictine values of creative work, holy leisure, wise stewardship, loving community, humility and peace.

Growing Toward God: Christianity Revisited

Phyllis Tickle and Sam Keen challenge, provoke, and laugh wholeheartedly in an unscripted conversation on the future of Christianity. This is a good introduction for congregations beginning to consider ways to respond to the postmodern world.

Growing Toward God: Reconciliation And Transformation

Desmond Tutu speaks about how we come to terms with the love of God for us. Because Bishop Tutu’s style is so remarkably enriching, the study is formatted to allow groups to view the whole presentation in one session, and then to revisit parts of it in detail during subsequent meetings. It is a perfect resource for congregations, study groups, schools and more, whether in a large faith community or a small one. No extensive knowledge of scripture is needed, just an interest in being nourished by on of the most energizing preachers and teachers in the Anglican world.

Growing Toward God: Sacred Stories

Three noted writers, Maya Angelou, Frederick Buechner and James Carroll, recreate stories of their own lives, telling of their personal triumphs and tragedies in this presentation. Through their storytelling, they invite viewers to discover for themselves the presence of God, the healing power of memory, the value of telling secrets, and the possibilities of changing the future by forgiving the past. In the accompanying resource, you will learn to tell your faith stories, your community's stories and the sacred stories of the Bible.

Growing Toward God: Setting The Stage

A CULTURAL SPAN

In this adult education DVD and program, Phyllis Tickle explores the situation facing people of faith with new alignments of faith, understanding and hope. From her perspective as religion editor of Publishers Weekly, Phyllis Tickle surveys some of the main influences that have led to what she calls “the post-Enlightenment church.” She examines the “three cords of one cable—spirituality, corporeality, and morality,” that bind us together as a culture, and helps us to see religion as a human construct that changes as the society changes.

Growing Toward God: Understanding Why

Dr. Bernie Siegel uses his trademark humor and examples from his patients to stimulate belief in God and to examine our beliefs about ourselves. He looks at the ways our spiritual lives have an impact on health, and encourages the audience to “follow your heart, not your head."

Growing Toward God: We All Get Healed

In this DVD program Jim Wallis discusses the relationships between poverty and war, fear and security and urges the listeners and the nation to do more to combat global poverty. The editor of Sojourners Magazine, Jim Wallis, discusses the relationships between poverty and war, fear and security, invoking Martin Luther King’s view that the only security is a common security. He also urges the listeners and the nation to do more to combat global poverty, quoting the prophet Micah’s vision of each person “sitting under his own vine and fig tree.”

Outward Signs

THE CONGREGATION AS SACRAMENTAL COMMUNITY

This resource helps a congregation look at its unique mission and ministry. Together participants identify the strengths in their congregation, the areas where growth can occur and then use a prioritizing process to establish new directions and decisions. The eight topics in this resource can help any group (parish, committee, vestry, staff, etc.) be more fully aware that they are outward signs of God’s love in the world.

Praying All the Time is a children's VBS or Lent program.

101 Ways to Pray is a children's rotation workshop model unit.

Teach Us to Pray includes 22 lessons for youth or adults on different ways to pray.

Rooted in God

MOVING FROM MAINTENANCE TO MISSION

Rooted in God helps congregations determine their unique calling in God’s work. Participants are led through an exploration of what it means to be the Church and are guided on a journey to discern what God is particularly calling their church to become and do. The process focuses on Missional Theology and invites participants to discuss the discipline/discipleship needed to bring the "re-invented" church into existence. This resource is a great way to invigorate and re-focus a congregation. Participants lead the congregation through a workshop on developing a "Rule of Life" as a way of engaging the congregation as a whole. Ten sessions + the Rule of Life workshop.

Talking About God and Money

The purpose of this resource is to engender frank and open conversation about money, within the context of belief in God and commitment to the way of Jesus Christ. It is a part of LifeCycles, a larger program designed to help empower all Christians to live their baptismal ministry, so its structure begins with building community and then moves into exercises to help participants discern their values about money and how it is used.

The Many Faces of God

AN INTERFAITH ENCOUNTER FOR YOUTH AND ADULTS

This is an introduction to various world religions compared with the theologies of the Christian faith. Participants have the chance to go deeply into some important Christian theological issues while they learn the basics about some of our interfaith neighbors.

The Seventh Day

EMBRACING SABBATH SPIRITUALITY

In today’s over-scheduled world, many of us yearn for rest... for sabbath. The Seventh Day offers six sessions to help people experience the holiness of rest and delight in their daily lives. Three parts make this an ideal Sunday adult education resource. Also can be used with confirmation groups, new members groups or with youth groups.

The Story Of The Episcopal Church (DVD)
