LifeCycles Diocesan Membership

In most cases,LifeCycles is used as the formation process for mutual ministry teams which will provide the primary pastoral leadership in congregations. Some members of the congregation will be ordained, others will be commissioned for leadership ministries within the congregation while others will be sent forth to carry out their ministries in their daily lives.

Congregations participating in the program must obtain a congregational license to access the program sessions (see LifeCycles Congregational Membership). Only dioceses have access to the training components of this program as this work is under the direction of the bishop and Commission on Ministry. All of the Congregational Members materials are provided for staff review and training purposes.

This program for dioceses is offered as an annual membership with the understanding that you are joining a community of dioceses working together on developing resources. Dioceses are asked to share their materials, learnings and may be invited to or volunteer to assume specific responsibilities as part of the Development Team.

An intial three-year commitment is required for dioceses and congregations.  We have learned that congregations need this time to ensure success. We also ask dioceses to make a commitment to the partnership -- the diocesan membership fee is one way for dioceses to support the team's efforts.

The diocesan materials include:

  • Materials to assist the Commission on Ministry and other diocesan leaders learn about baptismal ministry
  • Congregational adult education programs, PowerPoint presentations and other materials to assist the diocese in introducing baptismal ministry to congregations
  • Models of how other dioceses have implemented baptismal ministry in their congregations: COM manuals, definitions of roles, diocesan canons and procedures, etc.
  • Training programs from ministries licensed by the bishop -- and several that do not require licensure (under development)
  • Samples of discernment processes
  • Etc. This is where any diocese that has any documents related to baptismal ministry makes it available to others in the community -- it is constantly changing so check in regularly.

Training: We have trainers who can help you get started. Contact us for more information.

Companions (mentors): Training is provided (strongly recommended but not required) for those who will serve as Companions for LifeCycles groups. Download application form: Companion Application.

NOTE: If a congregation in your diocese is not pursuing mutual ministry team development but they want a comparable program of adult faith formation, the content of this program is incorporated into Journey in Faith which is available as a membership for a congregation or community.
