What if the Angel Gabriel called Mary on her cell phone? In this contemporary take on the Christmas story, Elizabeth and Mary chat by instant messaging, a mysterious GPS leads three members of the Wiseacre family to find the newborn king in Bethlehem, and shepherds hitch a ride because Gabriel contacted them on "Faithbook."
Chaos and hilarity ensue, but in the end, everyone discovers that the holy child born to teen parents in a barn will change their lives.
This clever take on the Christmas pageant is perfect for teens or older children. With only four short scenes and little dialogue to learn, it is simple to execute, without a lot of props, costumes or multiple rehearsals. It's funny, but also invites us into the sacred story to see what we can learn about the characters (and ourselves!) when we change the contextual setting to match our busy modern lives.
