Take your VBS on a pilgrimage to five Medieval pilgrimages destinations: Rome, Canterbury, Santiago de Compostela, Dunfermline (Scotland) and Croagh Patrick (Ireland). During their imaginary journey, they will learn about the life and legacy of a Saint revered since the Middle Ages and pretend to make the trek to see and hear the story for themselves.
Large group instruction takes place in the Pilgrim Gathering and in the Opening and Closing Town Assemblies while small group teaching occurs in Guild Meetings. Each day participants visit the Street Fair where activities and projects help create an understanding of the pilgrimage destination and help demonstrate how each person of faith followed the example of Jesus. In the process, Pilgrims learn the importance of seeking a spiritual direction for their own lives today.
This program can also be used for Sunday School or Summer Church. Use the
SECOND PILGRIMAGE to extend this into a full year's program. Set up the village and work through the activities over four Sundays per "day" for five months of programming.
